Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Common noise is a correlated noise input shared by multiple neurons. Biological experiments have shown that the common noise generates synchronous firing and characteristic spike correlations. To explain the effect the of common noise observed in the experiments, theoretical researches have developed analytically solvable model for the common noise. Most of the previous theoretical models have assumed a homogeneous neural population without any synaptic connectivity. In general, each neuron receives different synaptic connections from other neurons and this heterogeneity of the synaptic connectivity generates a variety of firing patterns. However, the effect of common noise on this variety of firing patterns has not been revealed by the previous homogeneous models. In this study, we construct a feedforward neural network with common noise and synaptic connectivity and then evaluate firing probabilities. First, we analytically derive probabilistic distributions of firing rate and spike correlation. Our analytical solutions clear a characteristic relationship between firing rate and spike correlation under the existence of the common noise. Second, we evaluate firing patterns by degree distribution. We reveal that the common noise increase the variance of the degree distribution and affects the variety of the firing patterns. In addition, we discuss the correspondence of our result with biological experiments and suggestion to information processing by common noise.
