Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We are investigating brain response caused by musical expectancy during listening to music. In this study, we focused on auditory steady state responses (ASSR) recorded by magnetoencephalography because it has been reported that amplitude of ASSR is not affected by preceding tone. Melodies composed of 7 tones, which were amplitude-modulated, were presented to 8 subjects. 7th tone was either congruent or incongruent with respect to musical context of the melodies. Amplitude of ASSR elicited by incongruent 7th tone was significantly larger than that elicited by congruent 7th tone. It suggests that ASSR reflect a kind of mismatch responses comparing with template of music progressions.
