Although synchronous neural UP-state mediated by astrocytic activity was reported in recent years, the mechanism remains unknown. On the other hand, it was reported that astrocytic glutamate release synchronously depolarizes adjacent neurons only while synaptic transmissions are blocked. The purpose of this study is to confirm that astrocytic depolarization propagated through synaptic connections can lead to synchronous UP-state neurons. We applied the astrocytic current to a few local neurons in the neural network model consists of many cortical model neurons. The results show the possibility that astrocytic depolarization generates synchronous UP-states in the neurons that do not directly receive glutamate release from the activated astrocyte. |
