Services Computing Platform for Wi-Fi Direct Communication between Android Terminals

(in English) This paper describes our new Services Computing Platform for Android direct communication applications which offers great advantages under situations where public wireless communication services are not available. In deep mountainous areas, inside a duct in a building, or in the depth of an underground tunnel, for example, workers currently have lots of difficulties in performing their jobs because there are no communication media between them other than the transceiver. We aim at providing them with a communication tool much more convenient than a transceiver by utilizing Android direct communication capabilities. The Wi-Fi direct function, which has been added since the release of API 4.0, allows two Android terminals away from each other to send and receive data directly. We establish our communication platform upon it by preparing functional blocks for TCP/IP, UDP/IP and RTP communications, bitmap handling and animation processing. Based on this platform, we also create basic applications for text, voice, moving pictures, and instructions drawn over a picture. This platform is expected to further open up new possibilities by adding various functions and implementing enhanced applications, such as for disaster area communications.
