Performance Analysis of Amplify-and-Forward Cooperative Diversity with RF Energy Harvesting

(in English) Typical wireless channels suffer from a multipath fading which significantly reduces communication capacity for a given average transmission power and hinders reliable information transmissions. To overcome this issue, cooperative diversity is an attractive option which can efficiently obtain spatial diversity without equipping nodes with additional antennas. The relay, however, inherently consumes the energy from its own battery and this might result in shortening the network lifetime. In this paper, we propose the use of radio-frequency (RF) energy harvesting which scavenges the energy from ambient radio waves to support cooperative transmission without consuming the relay's battery. Specifically, the amplify-and-forward cooperative diversity with RF energy harvesting will be theoretically analyzed and theoretical results will reveal the effects of node geometry and transmission power.
