Effectiveness of a Musical scale to represent table -- structure for the visually-impaired --

(in English) We have investigated if a musical scale, which was appended in a cell element, is effective for the visually impaired to understand the content of a table. Experiments were carried out with 24 sighted subjects. As a result, in terms of task completion time, there was no significant difference between the table with a musical scale and the table without it. In terms of mental workload, however, we found there was a significant difference between the two tables. A sense of pitch made no difference to both task completion time and mental workload. Subjects told that a table with a musical scale was more pleasant than a table without it.
