Class Combination and Block Boundary Prediction based Hardware Oriented Algorithm for SAO in HEVC

(in English) Sample Adaptive Offset (SAO) is a newly added in-loop filtering technique in High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). The concept of SAO is to reduce mean sample distortion that mainly comes from quantization errors of transform coefficients. This paper proposes class combination, pre-decision and block boundary prediction algorithms for hardware design of SAO. The class combination and pre-decision methods reduce complexity by combining similar processes and reducing search range, respectively. The block boundary prediction enables in-loop filter to process parallelly by cutting data dependency with Deblocking Filter (DBF). Evaluation results show that proposed methods reduce averagely 31.27% computational time and 0.17% BD-bitrate.
