Heartbeat Detection by Using Doppler Radar with Wavelet Transform Based on Scale Factor Learning

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, biological sensing by using Doppler radar has been studied in many research institutions. Doppler radar is a useful tool to detect heartbeat and respiration without using wearable devices. However, since signals stemmed from the heartbeats are very small and distorted by the body motion, the subject needs to keep still in most of the conventional works. Hence, the method to suppress the effects of the body motion is required to make it widely applicable. In this report, we propose the method to utilize the scale factor whose wavelet coefficients increase only when the heartbeats occur. Through experiments, we show that root mean square error of R-R interval, which is an indicator of heartbeat, is reduced on desk work activities by using our method.
