An Adaptive Dual-mode DFCE with Scattered Pilots for Fading Condition

(in English) In an application of a dual-mode decision feedback channel estimation to a COFDM transmission with scattered pilot symbols, there would be three kinds of possible methods to process or select forward and backward channels estimated values. These are to average the values, to select one direction values from both direction values based on a path metric value of Viterbi decoding, and to select a value from values based on LLR (Log-Likelihood Ratio) value. Effective methods to obtain accurate estimated channel values in frequency and time directions depend on a fading condition characterized respectively by a delay spread and Doppler frequency. An exact detection of fading conditions requires a complicated signal processing for unstable and variable delay spread and Doppler frequency and is desirable to be removed from the channel estimation. The paper proposes a scheme to select an effective one from the three methods for frequency and time directions without a detection of fading conditions, which selects the methods based on path metric values. Computer simulation results show that the proposed approach provides the same channel estimation performance as that obtained under an exact detection of fading conditions.
