Study on Coexistence Method of Proximity and Short Range Millimeter Wave Wireless Communication Systems

(in English) This paper proposes an access method of proximity millimeter wave wireless communication (PMW) system to coexist with IEEE 802.11ad that is one of short range millimeter wave wireless communication systems. The proposed method is effective when the PMW system of several centimeters communication range and 802.11ad of several meters communication range work in the same frequency channel and coexist in the same area. Due to the difference of communication range, there are positions where the PMW terminals can not communicate by the interference from 802.11ad terminals. By using the proposed method, the PMW terminals can communicate even in those positions. In the proposed method, the PMW terminal detects random backoff periods of 802.11ad by monitoring the carrier idle periods and transmits frames during the detected random backoff periods. When an 802.11ad terminal randomly selects large values for random backoff processes, idle duration in the random backoff periods becomes long and the PMW terminal succeeds to transmit a frame with high probability. Thus, the PMW terminals can probabilistically communicate even when the 802.11ad terminals interfere with them. In this paper, throughput of the PMW system is evaluated by the computer simulations and the effectiveness of the proposed method is shown.
