Field Experiment Results of Precoding-Based Vertical Plane Beamforming of Base Station Antenna for LTE-Advanced

(in English) In cellular mobile communication systems, co-channel interference among cells caused by 1 cell frequency reuse is one of the major issues. As one technique for reducing co-channel interference and improving system capacity in a whole cell, we have proposed precoding-based vertical plane beamforming of base station antenna. The authors have clarified that the proposed system gives drastic improvement in a whole system since the proposed method is effective in improving the desired signal level in the serving cell and in mitigating interference level to the neighbor cells at the same time. To confirm the efficiency of the proposed system in a realistic environment, this paper first developed a prototype system and conducted a field experiment. This paper reports the overview of the prototype system and the experimental results.
