Performance Evaluation of Bandwidth-Variable Path Restoration Method for Optical Layer-2 Switch Network

(in English) We are developing an optical layer-2 switch network which utilizes both WDM and TDM technologies and centralized control scheme in order to provide future large-scale metro networks cost-effectively. In this network, each TDM path is dynamically controlled in response to changes in network condition such as traffic fluctuation, which makes it likely that network resources can be shared by many paths efficiently. Generally, high reliability against unpredictable failure is required for network infrastructure hence many fault recovery methods are developed. In this paper, we propose a restoration method that realizes a fast recovery against single-link failure in large-scale network cost-effectively. This method uses fast failure detection scheme that utilizes control plane and fast bandwidth allocation algorithm, which leads to fast recovery without backup resources. Simulation results show that the proposed method achieves less than 50 ms of service recovery time in 10K-bandwidth-variable path network. We also report on our feasibility evaluation with a prototype system.
