Towards realization of a future mobile network with super high bit rate and capacity, this report evaluates a feasibility of 10 Gbps-class high bit rate transmission using Massive MIMO with over 100 antenna elements by simulations in a small cell using higher frequency bands based on Phantom cell concept. A base station in the small cell introduces a uniform planar array as Massive MIMO and realizes the super high bit rate by compensating for path loss by three-dimensional (3D) beamforming (BF) and spatially multiplexing multiple streams. This report targets 20 GHz band 20 Gbps as one such example, and evaluates basic performance of Massive MIMO by link-level simulation in spatial correlated MIMO channels with a line-of-sight (LOS) wave. When eigenmode precoding is employed to evaluate upper limit of the performance, and the numbers of transmitter antennas and streams are 256 and 16, respectively, throughput performances are evaluated in terms of antenna spacing and angular spread, and it is shown that 3D BF achieves 20 Gbps throughput in the LOS channels. Throughput performance is also shown by taking into account antenna directional patterns derived by electromagnetical field simulation. |
