Proposal of Scheduling Algorithm for Carrier Aggregation to Improve User Throughput Fairness in Heterogeneous Network

(in English) In order to cope with the increasing mobile traffic, Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) is being deployed by overlaying small cells on top of a macro cell network. In LTE-Advanced, carrier aggregation (CA) was standardized as a technology to realize wideband transmission with multiple component carriers (CC). Joint-CC proportional fairness (PF) scheduling algorithm was proposed for CA as an enhancement to conventional PF scheduling, which achieved high capacity and the fairness of user throughput. In conventional PF scheduler, the scheduling metric was calculated by the comparison between an expected instantaneous transmission rate and an effective transmission rate per CC. On the other hand, in Joint-CC PF scheduling algorithm, the effective transmission rate between CCs was calculated per all CCs. When CA is introduced, the number of available CCs is different among UEs. Joint-CC PF scheduling does not considere of the difference of the traffic load between CCs and the allocatable bandwidth per UEs and it did not achieve the fairness of user throughput. In this paper, we propose a scheduling algorithm to improve user throughput fairness with the scheduling metric considering the difference of the traffic load between CCs and the allocatable bandwidth per UEs. From the simulation results, in a macro eNB and a remote radio head (RRH) environment, the proposed algorithm improved the lower 5% of user throughput by up to 35%.
