2.42Gbps Optical OFDM transmission experiment using Time-domain Equalization over 3168m MMF

(in English) Multi mode fiber's (MMFs) has been estimated that approximately 19.5 million kilometers of it have been installed in-campuses and in-building network backbones. Upgrade of communication systems using MMFs has attracted attention. Optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) can increase a spectral efficiency and can easily suppress inter symbol interference (ISI) using Cyclic Prefix (CP) insertion/removal. Thus, there has been considerable interest in a MMF transmission with larger ISI using optical OFDM systems. However, traditional optical OFDM systems degrade a transmitting efficiency due to CPs which does not carry any data. The use of time domain equalization (TEQ) in an optical OFDM system over MMF gives no degradation of the transmission efficiency because of no CPs insertion. In this report, 2.42Gbps optical OFDM signal can be transmitted over 3168m OM2 grade MMF without CP by using the TEQ.
