A Study on Inter-Cell Interference Coordination using eNB Signal Transmission Timing Shift in 3D Cell Structure with eICIC

(in English) 3D cell structure is effective to cope with rapidly increasing mobile data traffic, in which small cells are three-dimensionally overlaid on outdoor macro cells including vertical direction. In order to increase spectral efficiency further in this 3D cell structure, it is necessary to reduce interference between outdoor macro cells and small cells. In order to reduce the interference from macro cells, ABS (Almost Blank Subframe), which stops data channel transmission, is introduced in eICIC(enhanced Inter-Cell Interference Coordination). However, PDCCH(Physical Downlink Control Channel) required for uplink resource allocation remains even in ABS, which results in PDCCH interference. In this paper, we propose a method to suppress the degradation of PDCCH performance by using eNB signal transmission timing shift. Based on numerical results, we show that the proposed method can improve the small cell PDCCH performance and transmission capacity compared with the conventional symbol-wise timing shift method.
