Proposal of Wireless LAN frame collision control using collision pattern detection

(in English) With the rapidly increasing widespread use of wireless LAN devices, there is concern about the degradation of transmission efficiency due to collisions between wireless transmissions. The IEEE802.11standard includes a collision avoidance mechanism, but it is not able to avoid some causes of collisions, including coincidental choice of identical backoff count, or signal power below the carrier-sense threshold. It is also difficult for a wireless device to know whether the cause of packet loss at a receiver is collision or weak signal. We previously proposed a method for detecting and classifying the type of frame collisions by analyzing the received power signal. This paper proposes a method for reducing collisions by selecting transmission parameters according to the type of collisions detected. Simulations were used to show the relation between collision cause and collision type, and the feasibility of reducing collisions by changing transmissions parameters according to the collision type.
