[Invited Talk] Multi-core fiber coupling devices using free space optics and their possible application to other functions

(in English) Recent progress on multi-core fiber (MCF) coupling devices using free space optics is reviewed aiming at overcoming traffic capacity limit by space-division multiplex with MCF and coupling devices, for example, MCF connector, fan-in / fan-out device that connect MCF to single mode fibers. In this paper, we show the design, fabrication, and measured optical characteristics of the MCF connectors and fan-in / fan-out devices using space lens optics. Also described is possible application of MCF devices taking advantage of the design flexibility of free space optics to other functions such as MCF isolators or MCF couplers.
