Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Finger character (or finger spelling) is the visual language which made the hand shape correspond to a letter. A number of related researches was set only finger characters without a motion as a recognition target. This paper sets all Japanese finger characters including both without motion and with motion as a recognition target, and proposes a single finger character recognition method. A depth image is obtained by a RGB-D camera. Next, a right hand region is extracted by using the depth image, and features are computed. These features are fed to HMM. We set 81 Japanese finger characters as the recognition target, and carried out the evaluation experiments with five subjects. We obtained an average recognition rate of 96%.
