Distortion correction and synthesis of 2D histology images of brain tumor using macro images

(in English) For detailed analysis and diagnosis of glioblastoma (GBM), it is required to compare pathological images with MR images on the same regions to analyze their relationship. As a first step to this end, we propose a processing flow for obtaining a large pathology image of a brain slice. The process includes cutout from a deceased whole brain into several blocks, whole slide imaging of thin slice of those blocks and merge of those images without distortion. In this paper, we describe a series of image merging techniques. Several slice images are first merged in a way that the corresponding edges connect each other, and then the obtained large image is deformed by thin plate spline so as to match to a macro image of the corresponding brain section taken by an optical camera. An experiment result shows that a merged histology image similar to the shape of the macro image is obtained.
