High-Intensity Sonoluminescence and Bubble Dynamics in Liquids with Low Vapor Pressure and High Viscosity

(in English) Multibubble sonoluminescence (MBSL) and single-bubble sonoluminescence (SBSL) in sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, glycerol and ethylene glycol was measured under various conditions, while the corresponding cavitation bubble dynamics was observed. The spectral intensity of MBSL produced by an ultrasonic horn at 20 kHz in 85wt% phosphoric acid was higher than that in 95wt% sulfuric acid, in spite of larger vapor pressure of the phosphoric acid. In the presence of sodium salt, the sodium atom emission region of MBSL in phosphoric acid was different from that in sulfuric acid, despite that the path of bubble streamer and the bubble dynamics in the both acids were very similar. In SBSL experiments, the SBSL intensity in 30 wt% phosphoric acid, where the SBSL intensity could be expected to reach the maximum due to the viscosity by simulation, was lower than that in 55 wt% solution. These experimental results suggest that there may be a key factor for extremely bright SL other than vapor pressure and viscosity.
