A Study on the OFDM Systems with High Power Amplifier Efficiency Based on Combined Peak Power Reduction Methods

(in English) It is well known that the signal of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) has high peak power and this nature causes a significant degradation in terms of the power amplifier efficiency. Thus various peak power reduction approaches have been proposed for OFDM signals, and clipping and filtering (CAF), selected mapping (SLM) and trellis mapping (TS) are three major examples. In this paper, we consider a peak power efficient OFDM system where we first reduce its peak power with distortionless methods (i.e., SLM or TS) and then apply CAF for additional peak power reduction. To this end, we make a thorough evaluation of the system in terms of its peak power reduction capability as well as its receiver performance considering the effect of power amplifier efficiency.
