Theoretical analysis of mutual synchronization in strongly coupled nonlinear oscillators

(in English) In the analysis of mutual synchronization of coupled nonlinear oscillators, the phase reduction method has played an important role. In our previous work, we extended the conventional phase reduction method that is valid only when the input to the oscillators is sufficiently weak, and proposed a novel reduction method applicable to the case of strong inputs [W. Kurebayashi et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 111, 214101 (2013)]. In this report, by applying our extended phase reduction method, we propose a method for theoretically analyzing mutual synchronization of strongly coupled limit-cycle oscillators. The proposed method is valid for the strong-coupling case, in which the orbits of the oscillators is significantly deformed. Furthermore, our method enables us to analyze hysteresis phenomena, in which the synchronization property of the oscillators depends on their initial states. Through numerical simulations, we show the robustness of the proposed method.
