Algorithms for Independent Set Reconfiguration Problem on Graphs

(in English) Suppose that we are given two independent sets Ib and Ir of a graph such that |Ibj| = |Ir|, and imagine that a token is placed on each vertex in Ib. Then, sliding token is to determine whether there exists a sequence of independent sets which transforms Ib into Ir so that each independent set in the sequence results from the previous one by sliding exactly one token along an edge in the graph. This problem is known to be PSPACE-complete for perfect graphs. In this paper, we show that the problem is solvable in O(n) time for proper interval graphs and trivially perfect graphs, both of which are subclasses of the class of perfect graphs, where n is the number of vertices in a graph. For these graph classes, we can nd an actual sequence of independent sets between Ib and Ir with the minimum number of token-slidings, in polynomial time.
