This paper examines adaptability of EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) to a backhaul network of a virtual single cell network. Here, the virtual single cell network means connected small cells deployed along roads which allow no break on handover in packet transfers even to fast terminals. The examination shows (i) The EPON frame itself can be used for the virtual single cell network, (ii) The mode bit meaning should be modified to indicate communication types, point-to-point or multicast, (iii) The broadcast communication should be indicated with LLID (Logical Link ID), not with the mode bit. (iv)The modified GEPON can be used to a virtual single cell network which provides modified WLAN interface with speed of about 100Mbps at average. |
