Study on Airtime Occupancy Ratio in ITS V2V Broadcast Communication

(in English) In order to improve the reliability of CSMA/CA vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) broadcast communication, a vehicle-roadside-vehicle relaying communication scheme has been proposed and its effectiveness, especially in non-line-of-sight environments such as intersections, has been shown. Relaying, however, increases air time occupancy ratio in a wireless channel, which results in more chances of packet collisions. Then the improvement by relaying may not archive for a large number of vehicle stations. Although the packet delivery rate of CSMA/CA communications has close relationship with airtime occupancy ratio, no reports have discussed in detail this issue in V2V communications. This paper analyzes airtime occupancy ratio in ITS V2V communications using vehicle-roadside-vehicle relaying scheme and investigates the relationship between airtime occupancy ratio and packet delivery rate, considering vehicle stations locating around an intersections environment.
