Performance Analysis of Spectrum Sensing Schemes for Cognitive Radio Networks: Concentrated Sensing and Parallel Sensing

(in English) In cognitive radio networks, secondary users detect available spectrum channels by spectrum sensing. Cooperative sensing is a spectrum detection scheme in which available spectrum is detected by secondary users in a cooperative manner. Typical schemes are concentrated sensing and parallel sensing. Concentrated sensing improves the sensing accuracy, while parallel sensing improves the sensing efficiency. However, it is not clear which scheme works best in what conditions. In this paper, we compare the performances of the two sensing schemes. We consider a discrete-time Markov chain for each sensing scheme, deriving the throughput of secondary users. In numerical examples, it is shown that the difference between the performances of the two sensing schemes significantly depends on the required detection probability.
