Spectral and Technical Items for Small Satellites in the Future Observation Applications -- L Band SAR System --

(in English) In future observation applications, constellation and formation flight of small satellites are needed. Generally, active radio sensor is very difficult to realize in small satellite because high power and larger antenna is needed. Concerning power generation, it is necessary to select either solar cells on rigid/flexible light paddle or solar cells on a membrane with masts(ex. "IKAROS" ) since recently efficiency of thin solar cells on membrane has increased. Small satellite with high power system is newly proposed by using membrane expansion technology by spinning and platform despan technology (ex."SAKIGAKE"). In this paper, particularly, small satellite with L band SAR was proposed because surface accuracy of antenna is not so severe and mesh antenna is acceptable and because antenna is allowed to be small to realize higher spatial resolution under higher power transmitter based upon principle of SAR. Higher data transmission and operation not to decrease the altitude due to air drag can be realized by 16QAM modulation technique and ion engine technologies developed in Hodoyoshi 4. Moreover, when extension of bandwidth of L band from 1215-1300MHz to 1215-1400MHz is approved in future WRC, spatial resolution of about 1 m can be realized in azimuth and range direction. For the application of polarimetry and interferometry, specified attitude and orbital accuracy is needed to meet user requirements.
