Performance Analysis of Error Vector Magnitude Due to RF impairments in 60 GHz Millimeter-wave System

(in English) Recently, data traffic has increased with the spread of smart phone. To deal with this increasing data traffic, new bands for wireless communication are needed. Unlicensed 60-GHz frequency band has been attracted and the standardization is made in the IEEE802.11ad and the IEEE802.15.3c. According to the IEEE 802.11ad standard, four 2.16-GHz bandwidth channels are defined around the 60-GHz. We examine and will realize that 4 users are simultaneously served for each channel by exploiting space division multiple access (SDMA) and 16 users can be simultaneously served to maintain 6 Gbps throughput for each user. To achieve this throughput, modulation level needs more than 16 QAM. Therefore, Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) should be less than -17 dB. In this paper, we evaluate the relationship between EVM and RF impairments such as IQ imbalance, phase noise and PA nonlinearity. Numerical analysis and theoretical analysis shows the performance of each RF circuits to meet the target EVM.
