[Invited Lecture] Field Experimental Evaluations of Smart Vertical MIMO in LTE-Advanced Downlink

(in English) This paper presents field experimental results on a base station (BS) antenna configuration associated with the fading correlation for 4-by-2 multi-user (MU) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in the Long Term Evolution (LTE)-Advanced downlink. In our evaluation, we consider horizontally arranged antennas changing the distance between the antennas (Horizontal MIMO) and using the vertical branches of base station antenna with splitting (Vertical MIMO). The field experimental results show that the throughput of greater than 1 Gbps is achieved in 14% of CDF by employing the Vertical MIMO for Rank-4 MU-MIMO at Yokosuka area environment that Line-Of-Sight (LOS) is dominant. The throughput of Vertical MIMO is 30% larger than the horizontal MIMO configuration in CDF 50% of the course.
