Gain Offset Changes in AGC EDFA due to Dynamic Optical Path Switching

(in English) Dynamic optical path switching is becoming more important as the rapid traffic increase due to cost and energy pressure. In this paper, we experimentally investigate gain offsets in a WDM AGC EDFA under dynamic wavelength switching operations. To emulate a plausible wavelength path switching situation, we resolve route and wavelength assignment problems with randomly generated dynamic wavelength demands and use the assignment results in the experiment. We examine five different policies of wavelength assignment and experimentally investigate the dependency of the gain offset behavior on these policies. Experimental results show that a wavelength assignment method based on a simple EDFA gain model can reduce the gain deviations due to the gain offsets by 5-15% (0.3 – 0.7 dB) after cascaded five EDFAs.
