Estimation of hepatic function after radiation therapy using Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced MR -- Registration method for MRI and radiation dose distribution map --

(in English) Radiotherapy to liver had been clinically avoided because the liver has a high sensitivity for radiation. With the recent developments of radiation concentration techniques, radiotherapy has begun to apply to the liver tumors. Nevertheless, it is impossible to preclude the radiation for normal parenchym, the liver undergoing the radiotherapy develops a functional damage depends on the radiation dose. Gadoxetate disodium (EOB) is an MR contrast medium that is taken specifically into hepatocytes and the EOB enhancement reflects focal hepatic function. In this research, we develop a method for assessment of focal liver damage which is caused by radiotherapy by using EOB enhanced MRI (EOB-MRI). Specifically, we propose a fusion technique between EOB-MRI and radiation dose distribution map. We use an extracted liver region mask to achieve high accuracy image registration. The comparison result of Dice coefficient, the proposed method was more accurately than conventional method. We evaluated a relationship using a 2-dimensional histogram between EOB enhancement and radiation dose.
