Improvement of pancreas segmentation algorithm from multi-phase CT volumes

(in English) This paper proposes a method for improving a conditional probabilistic atlas(PA) with a condition of rough segmentation so as to improve a pancreas segmentation algorithm from multi-contrast-phase abdominal CT volumes. The conventional conditional PA suffered from low performance caused by the inappropriate rough segmentation result that was served as a condition of the PA. We present a novel conditional PA with additional conditions of manual landmarks located at head and tail of a pancreas where the performance of the previous method was low. Lasso algorithm is employed to select labels from a dictionary that resemble to the pancreas in a given test CT volume. A conditional PA is constructed from the selected labels and the pancreas is extracted based on maximum a posteriori scheme with the conditional PA. This paper describes results of applying the algorithm trained from four contrast phase abdominal CT volumes of 70 training cases to 14 test cases that showed lowest performance among 70 testing cases in our previous study followed by the discussion of the effectiveness of the novel conditional PA.
