Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Dysphagia or swallowing disorder negatively impacts health and quality of life (QOL) of elderly and cerebrovascular accident people. We tested at rest induced motion of the hyo-laryngeal complex using surface electrical stimulation (SES) on the neck. The superior and anterior motion of the hyoid bone will make the motion of epiglottis inferior and reduce the risk of aspiration. However, the induced hyoid bone motion was smaller than that of normal swallowing. It should be verified whether the SES induced motion of the hyoid bone will be beneficial in the treatment of dysphagia.
