Filtering of particles by a standing wave field of ultrasound

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In the present study, the suspension particles were concentrated using ultrasound. A standing wave field was formed in the cylindrical reactor with a transducer and a reflector. The suspension particles flowed through the acoustic reactor. When the particles weight was compared in the reactor and outside of the reactor, there were more particles in the reactor than that outside. The suspension particles were trapped in the nodes of sound pressure of the standing wave field, and the particles sank by gravity. It is possible to concentrate a particle in suspension by using this system.
