Hologram memory is a promising data storage technology with a high recording density and fast data-transfer rate. Magnetic garnet media such as bismuth substituted yttrium iron garnet (Bi:YIG) films have advantages of rewritability and unnecessity of shielding. The diffraction efficiency $eta$ of these garnet films is not sufficient to apply to the storage devices. In this report, we investigated bismuth substituted gadolinium iron garnet (Bi:GIG), DyBi:GIG, and GaBi:GIG, which have a large magnetooptical effect. We also proposed the double-layered media composed of Bi:YIG ($eta = 0.030%$) and Bi:GIG ($eta = 0.033%$) and the high diffraction efficiency of 0.049% was obtained. |
