To investigate snow effects on received GNSS signals using two GNSS antennas above and under the surface of snow, observational experiments were performed in the two winter seasons of 2011/2012 and 2012/2013. Purpose of these experiments was to quantitatively evaluate characteristics of received GNSS signals with not only variation of snow depth but also changes of snow quality in the surface and the inner parts. For observational data with the GNSS antenna above the surface, effects of snow accretion of antenna and multipath signals reflected by the surface were analyzed. Using observational data with the GNSS antenna under the snow surface, we tried to investigate a relationship between receiving intensity and snow accumulation conditions, and propagation delay due to snow accumulation. |
