Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In core and metro networks, optical transparent wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks without Optical-Electrical-Optical (OEO) conversions at intermediate nodes have been extended in cooperation with emerging advanced high-capacity long-distance transmission technology. In these networks, a wavelength path uses the same wavelength between source and destination nodes due to wavelength continuity constraints. The level of accommodation efficiency in wavelength paths decreases as the wavelength fragmentation increases. Wavelength fragmentation is defined as a decrease in wavelength continuity in physical links. In order to support these trends, repetitive wavelength reconfiguration or defrag is a promising method to minimize the resource requirements. In this paper, we propose a practical heuristic wavelength defragmentation algorithm based on wavelength path resource management and show effective by using the proposed algorithm.
