[Invited Talk] Proposal of the multicore fiber coupling method using the Free-form optics

(in English) Fiber optical communication is the technical field which is very severe for optical loss and efficiency. Therefore the coupling method of the optical fiber collimates each fiber or contact it physically are common. It was not assumed so far that the decentered optical system which an optical surface shifted and/or tilted was used. Some new useful device would like to be suggested by breaking the common sense in this optical communication. The multi-core fiber (MCF) expected as an optical fiber for the future backbone system, multi cores exist in one fiber. Because the signal of each core of the uncoupled MCF becomes independent, it is necessary to divide some single core fibers (SCFs) such as the single-mode fiber. When cross section of the MCF is watched optically, each core is object height respectively; the coupler is a finite optical system from MCF to SCFs. Furthermore, it is bi-telecentric optical system because each core is parallel to an optical axis. All cores of the MCF are connected to bundle of SCF in a lump by applying a decentered optical system using the free-form surface, and possibility of low insertion loss, small size, and low-priced optical coupling method are discussed.
