A method of intensity-modulated radiation therapy planning using nonlinear dynamical system

(in English) The intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) plans include an optimization strategy for minimizing an objective function of radiation beam weights. Some of the authors have presented an approach to obtain a feasible solution of an objective function by applying an initial-value problem for the nonlinear differential equation to IMRT planning inverse problems. In this study, we propose a nonlinear dynamical system that a dose based objective function decreases monotonically, which is different from the conventional system. We first consider the stability of an equilibrium, which corresponds to the consistent planning in the IMRT system. Next, we confirm the performance of the proposed system for the inconsistent planning in the IMRT system by means of numerical experiments using phantom data simulating a clinical setup.
