In the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), Device-to-Device (D2D) communication has been discussed as one of the key technologies for LTE (Long-Term Evolution)-Advanced. Public Safety (PS) and commercial use cases, whose performance requirements are totally different, are assumed as the application of D2D communication. Since the necessary amount of radio resources is different depending on the service requirement, the schemes that can flexibly configure the radio resource allocation should be applied to D2D communication. Moreover, in the 3GPP standardization, D2D communication is assumed to share radio resources with cellular communication in order to enhance the spectral efficiency. Therefore, in order to realize appropriate radio resource allocation to D2D communication, it is important to consider the mutual effect between cellular communication and D2D communication, such as interference and spectral efficiency. In this talk, we discuss the radio resource allocation between D2D communication and cellular communication, in terms of the signal quality of each communication. First, we explain the background of LTE-Advanced D2D communication, technical challenges and current status of the standardization. Next, we explain the possible ways of the resource sharing. We evaluate the candidate radio resource allocation techniques under several conditions in terms of signal quality of cellular communication and D2D communication. From the obtained results, we discuss the radio resource allocation techniques which achieve good performance both for cellular communication and D2D communication. |
