A Study of Throughput Prediction Method for Access Point in Multi-rate Wireless LAN Environment Based on Target Problem

(in English) In recent years, Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) based on IEEE 802.11 standard has been spread rapidly. Nowadays, Access Points (APs) are established in various public facilities such as the station or the airport
as well as home, and the public WLAN service is developed broadly. Today, the multi-rate transmission system is used in a WLAN based on IEEE 802.11 standard. In previous studies, throughput of the AP in multi-rate environment has been estimated by harmonic average of users’ transmission rate, and the distance from the AP to all users is needed when estimating the total throughput of AP. Thus it has complexity of linear order computation. In this study, we propose the throughput predicting method of AP by the target problem for the purpose of reducing calculation cost. Although network structure is limited to the normal distribution arrangement structure where users are concentrating near AP, our method can predict the total throughput of AP by only the number of users linked
to AP. Moreover, we compare the estimated value of the throughput by our proposed method with the estimated value by the method of previous work, and confirm the performance of our proposed method.
