Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A new estimation method of relative vocal tract length was proposed based on short time Fourier analysis and demonstrated its high reproducibility. The proposed method is based on an interference-free power spectral representation of periodic signals. The interference-free envelope spectrum is preprocessed by removing global spectral shape, which is dependent on the glottal source waveform and the radiation characteristic from mouth opening. It also preprocessed by smoothing excessive spectral details such as; differences of formant peak bandwidths, spectral dips caused by vocal tract branching, existence of closing phase of vocal fold and three dimensional vocal tract shape. Spectral distance calculation of preprocessed spectra using only relevant frequency region is introduced to alleviate disturbing factors other than vocal tract length differences. This article reports application of the proposed method on singing voices for investigating effects of singers' individual differences and voice pitch on the estimated relative vocal tract lengths. It also discusses possible application to computer assisted voice training.
