A method of detecting emergency warning of ISDB-T terrestrial digital television standard with subcarrier reception

(in English) Television broadcasting stations in Japan will send emergency warning signal in case of possibility of significant earthquakes and tsunami. The signal will be sent by a request of local government or the Meteorological Agency. The digital television receivers, on the other hand, are capable of turning on the power and tuning the emergency program themselves when they receive the emergency warning signal specified by the standard of ISDB-T (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial). The essence of the self power-on mechanism is that the television or the radio listens to a specific broadcasting station even when the main power switch is off. In this paper, a method of detecting the emergency warning signal embedded in TMCC (Transmission and Modulation Configuration Control) of ISDB-T standard broadcasting signal is proposed.
