A numerical study on Adaptive Dispersion Equalization of Optical 16QAM Signals Using LMS Algorithm

(in English) In digital signal processing of coherent optical receivers, it is possible to equalize waveform distortion due to wavelength dispersion using an adaptive filter. In this paper, we numerically study adaptive equalization of 100-Gb/s 16 QAM signal using an LMS algorithm, estimate filter parameters necessary for a given accumulated dispersion, and investigate the limit of accumulated dispersion to be equalized. When the accumulated dispersion is small, the number of delay taps to minimize the error after equalization is predicted about five times larger than is expected with respect to the symbol spread. For a larger accumulated dispersion, the weighting coefficient vector that minimize the equalization error is suggested to fall on another class.
