[Invited Talk] Imaging Techniques in Astronomy
Sadanori Okamura (Hosei Univ.) SANE2013-17
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Electromagnetic waves from various astronomical objects, ranging from gamma ray to radio wave, come to the earth. Among them, we can observe from the ground only the visible light and radio wave. Other than these can only be observed from space using telescopes borne on the artificial satellites because they are absorbed by the atmosphere. Two important factors of astronomical imaging are light-collecting power and angular resolution. The light-collecting power depends upon the telescope aperture, while angular resolution is determined either by seeing or by telescope aperture. In the radio wavelength region where wavelengths are very long compared to visible light, interferometer is used to obtain high angular resolution. I will introduce latest results of astronomical imaging in various wavelength regions where different techniques are used.
