In laparoscopic surgery, to identify the location of the lesion and the blood vessels inside organs, the ultrasound probe which can be inserted from the port is used. However, since surgeons must observe at the same time the laparoscopic and ultrasound images, it is difficult to understand the correspondence of the ultrasound image and the real space. Therefore, to recognize the correspondence between the two images intuitively, a system for overlaying an ultrasound image on laparoscopic image is required. Since the tip of the probe is flexed freely, we propose a method to estimate the angle of the tip from the shape of the probe in the laparoscopic image. From results of accuracy evaluation, the average error of the flexion angle was 1.1 degrees. |
