| (in English) | Most of the traditional communication system for disabled people need a particular interface device to be attached in some part of the body. It was also difficult to be manipulated for the disabled people. In the present study, we developed a non-contact type of eye blink switch and communication system which was operated using only the eye blink. Since the system is usually used in the narrow space, e.g. in the hospital, it must be compact with low power. Tablet computer was suitable to satisfy these conditions. Using the tablet PC with webcam, the switch function was realized by using eye blink. The eye blink was detected by discriminating the open and close states of the eye with specified threshold of the iris area. Using the developed system, the users were able to create arbitrarily texts, and transmit principal requests to server PC. In order to reduce the erroneous inputs, the differences of the closed eye time between the spontaneous blink and voluntary blink were discriminated. The arbitrarily text input experiment was performed in normal subjects, and the operational performance was evaluated. From the experimental results, the accuracy of 80 ％ of correct character input performance was achieved. |
