For establishing 5G small cell base stations with massive MIMO technique, this paper discusses which communication scheme is suitable for high order spatial division multiplexing (SDM) in the condition that the propagation channel is mainly line of sight (LOS) and the aperture of a set of massive antennas is limited. In the previous paper, the authors have discussed the way for efficient use of degrees of freedom on massive antenna systems, and clarified that the 5G small cell base station should be located at high position like wall surface of the buildings. In this case, the propagation condition is mainly the line of sight (LOS) condition. In addition, massive MIMO systems assume that antenna elements are arrayed with small antenna spacing, and it results in the small aperture of a set of massive antennas. By the eigenvalue analysis for the MIMO channel matrix, however, the gap of the first and the second eigenvalues becomes quite large in such situations. This large gap brings small beam-forming gain for the second or much higher order eigenvalues and it is not effective for high order spatial division multiplexing In this paper, we propose the first eigen-mode parallel transmission scheme on which the base station employs multiple sub-arrays with large spacing and the sub-array only use the first eigen-mode transmission/reception. The computer simulations clarified its effectiveness in the situation. |
