Pulse Duty Ratio of City Area Pseudolite with Transmission Power Control

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A pseudo satellite, or pseudolite, is a ground transmitter that broadcasts signals in the same format as the satellites group broadcasts for satellite navigation. It enables us to augment availability of the satellite navigation even in block the sky visibility. For deployment of a pseudolite, we need to solve the interference problem the receiver encounters excessive reception power at the close proximity to the pseudolite and it is referred to as the near-far problem. A city area pseudolite with step-by-step transmission power reduction has been proposed to mitigate the near-far problem. The receiver where the pseudolite blocks the satellite signal with the first pulse would have a chance to make use of the second or third pulse. It results in an increase in the availability. Because the method increases the transmission duration for a pseudolite, it would also increase the interference. In this paper, the interference power at the receiver is evaluated and calculates the pulse duty ratio of the pseudolite where the time-average interference power is a desired value. Comparing it with the conventional pseudolite, the pseudolite with step-by-step transmission power reduction increased the coverage probability by 1.5 times.
